Overview
Kastan Mining is a Tanzanian registered closely held company that was registered on September 12, 2007 (Reg. #. 62000). The Company was formed to develop commercially viable mining and mineral processing initiatives in Tanzania. Kastan shareholders include Korean, American, Chinese, and Tanzanian investors.
Kastan is headquartered in the Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zone in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and has acquired additional industrial sites in the Kilosa District to support its planned processing expansion program.
The Company has approximately 25 full time and 10 part-time or contract personnel located in Dar es Salaam, Kilosa, and well as in liaison and branch offices in Korea and the United States.
The Company has interests in several mining and prospecting concessions in Tanzania that are at various stages of development ranging from early stage exploration projects to active commercialization and include seven copper mining licenses in the Kilosa District, four limestone mining licenses in Iringa Region, 14 prospecting licenses dispersed throughout the country, and four gemstone (moonstone, green garnet, and chrome tourmaline) mining licenses in application stage.
Kastan’s primary commercial efforts have been directed towards a copper, gold, silver mining project near the village of Ulelingombe in the Kilosa District (the “Kilosa Project”) and on a limestone mining project near the village of Vitono in the Iringa Region (the “Iringa Project”). Recently discovered gemstone deposits in the Kilosa Project are being evaluated to determine commercial potential.
The Company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Kastan Industries Limited, was established to manage mineral processing, lapidary, and export marketing activities. Kastan Industries has received two Export Processing Zone licenses (Developer and Operator) which carry certain tax and other incentives, to support its planned business operations. In addition, the Company has a subsidiary, Kastan Construction Limited, which was formed to serve as an in-house construction company to manage Kastan civil and building construction needs for its mining and processing activities. Kastan Construction is licensed with the Contractors Registration Board as a Civil and Building Contactor.
